This was another fun week! We've been really impressed with how well friends are writing their names in their sign-in books. We've been switching up the tasks for them to complete as they come in - printing first name and last name, street name and/or surveys! Good work kinders.
We've also continued to talk with the students about the importance of making a plan and brainstorming before they begin creating. What materials will you need? What tools will you need? Both classes have an architect centre and we even got to check out real blueprints sent in by a Turtles family. How cool!
The Turtles went on a special adventure to check out the new mural in our lobby. We were asked "can you see the math in our mural?" Their wonders and observations blew us away! We had friends wondering about how many squares there were, how many shapes were in the mural, and what the numbers inscribed in some of the squares meant. We went back to class with some pictures to see if we could find our the answers to our wonders!
A Whales friend brought in a birds nest this week. What a wonderful addition to the conversations that have been happening about the signs of Spring. We wrote down what we knew about birds and what we wanted to know. We watched a video that showed baby robins hatching and recorded new things we learned about robins. We had the opportunity to make nests to see if they could support an egg.
We took advantage of the warmer weather and spent lots of fun time outside. We were scientists and brought with us measuring tools and markers. We practised pouring water and seeing what containers had the greatest capacity. We mixed colours together by using our dried out markers. We also recorded the observations of the changes in our schoolyard. We had a great time!
We hope everyone has a wonderful March Break! Turtles and Whales, we will miss you. Have a restful week and we can't wait to hear about your adventures when school resumes on Monday, March 21st! )
