It's hard to believe the end of the year is fast approaching! We had a great last week of April.
This week, we are focusing on signs of Spring. Both classes have shown an interest in gardening and planting.
The Turtles began the week by planting seeds. Later, we added plants and watering cans to our sensory bin. Friends have been busy learning more about gardening!

The Turtles have also have also continued learning more about ants by doing research and making ant figurines using playdough. We have been using our OSMO a lot lately! It is a neat gizmo that hooks up to the Ipad to make it interactive with tangrams and word tiles. We have done a great job spelling different words. Many friends have gone camping in dramatic play. It is so cute to watch them build a 'caravan' and take off on their camping trip. A few groups of boys have been travelling all the way to Australia! They have had some interesting discussions about how best to get there - driving, boat, airplane - while looking at the map and noticing the oceans.
Later in the week, Miss Natasha brought over some puppets that EDP students had made for us to use as reading buddies. This inspired us to make our own!
Both groups have been working on recognizing the beginning sound in words. Students love our "letter sound boxes." We have one for each letter that are filled with little objects that each start with the letter sound. Sometimes, we make a big mess by dumping a few boxes onto the carpet! Luckily, our students are sound experts and use their letter/sound knowledge to help us sort the toys properly. Phew! We reinforce our learning by writing a picture that corresponds with a letter in our notebooks. We are so proud of our hard work!
The Whales have really "dug" into learning about gardening! Gone is our spaceship and dramatic play is in the beginning stages of becoming a Garden Centre. Students are making signs, fliers, and lists for what we need inside. Here is the progress we have made so far:
The Whales have been busy creating interesting inventions using our Beautiful Junk collection! They have also been loving their homework books and are eager to join the 'homework club' each day.
To extend our conversations about Spring, we made dirt paintings that reflect what we've seen while playing outside.
Here are some more pictures of learning from our week! Thanks to the friends who helped us get ready for the Muffin Breakfast on Monday. We look forward to seeing you in the gym that AM (muffins will be provided :) ). Have a wonderful weekend!
