Time sure is flying by here in kindergarten. Another week of learning, exploring and making friends has quickly passed. Many Turtles have been engaged in learning about birds and bones! They were paleontologists and found bones in the sensory bin! Many students also tried to build a safe and cozy nest to hold some mysterious black eggs.
Meanwhile, talk in the Whales room has been focused on supeheroes! Dramatic play has been transformed into "Superhero Headquarters" and we have a group of students who love working together to save the world from evil. They made maps of the city to know where to go when they get a call.
Questions like "What day is it?" and "How many more sleeps until Halloween?" have prompted the creation of calendars in both rooms. Chatting about months, when special family days are (sister/brother birthdays), and what day of the week it is will help reinforce this at home.
We continue to work on name recognition and printing our names. Both groups are working hard on their name sign in books every morning!
We have introduced rhyming words and read many books that rhyme this week. For extra practise, pbs kids is a fun website that have some age-appropriate rhyming games! (Google PBS Kids Rhyming).
We love seeing various concepts we've covered (like tally marks!) showing up during our guided play in "Thinking and Learning Time"
