This week, the kinders were so happy to welcome a new student to the Turtles room and to see one friend return from a long trip abroad. Welcome and welcome back :)
This week, we have been practising counting by 5s. When we see tally marks or during play, we make groups of 5 and practise our skip counting. Try it at home! We have also continued to learn more about money and many children have incorporated transactions into their play. Do you have any nickels at your house? How many do you have? How much is your collection worth....use your skip counting to find out!
The Turtles were challenged by Ms. Donahue to name 3 facts about each Canadian coin (worth, symbol, colour). They were especially excited when one friend said Rudolph is on the quarter :)
We have observed many Turtles telling their peers stories about the toys they are using while they play. To build upon this storytelling interest, we introduced story cubes into the room. There are different symbols on the blocks and the students roll them, then tell a story about the pictures that come up. A great way to reinforce sequencing!

I drew a movie theatre!
Doing a word hunt for sight words hidden around the room.
Cheering on friends as they search for words.
The Whales were very excited to hear that one friend in class has a new baby sister. They had many questions and some friends in the dramatic play spaceship turned into a family of space kitties with a new baby :)
The Whales been interviewing each other to find out facts about friends. We record our data on chart paper....can you think of other words that start with the same letter as the friend's name? How many sides does their favourite shape have? Can you play I Spy and find an object in the classroom that is the same as their favourite colour?

The Whales are learning how to document their learning on the class Ipads. Friends have been working hard using clay to make different shapes. This friend snapped the above pic and was very proud to have made a cylinder - one of the shapes in our 3D shapes song!
With today as an exception, we've really been enjoying the warmer weather. The play structure is open again and we are having lots of fun during our Outdoor Time. If your child is transitioning to spring shoes with laces, please make sure they practise tying them at home. We have a tying shoe in class they can also practise on. Great way to build fine motor skills!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
