A short but busy week! Halloween excitement is in full force here in kindergarten. Lots of discussion around Halloween costumes, spooky creatures and seasonal vocabulary. This has sparked an interest in BONES!
A friend in the Whales class brought in a pumpkin from her trip to the pumpkin patch! How fun! We had lots of questions about this vegetable, which we learned is part of the squash family. Both groups discussed the life cycle of this vegetable.
Birds have also been an area of interest in the Turtles room. We recorded some wonderings and will investigate further next week:
Both Whales and Turtles showed an interest in maps. Map-making was going on in both rooms this week. The Turtles were making pirate maps and the Whales were making maps for Batman and Robin!
We've continued to focus on letters, letter sounds and early literacy skills. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is a favourite in the Turtles Room! There are some great Chicka songs and readalouds on Youtube if you'd like to reinforce this at home.
Lastly some "seeds" were found in the sensory bin today. Turtles planted them in cups and asked for soil and water to help them grow. They decided the seeds needed sunlight and placed them on our windowsills. We wonder if anything will grow? Stay tuned!
