Another week has passed in kindergarten! Hard to believe January is coming to an end.
This week, we worked on a lot of math! Students met "Gus the Plus" as we explored addition more deeply. We talked about math sentences and how to read them. When we see Gus, we know we add together to make MORE!

Can you read the math sentence in the above picture? 2+5=?
The students had so much fun with Gus and we saw number practise popping up everywhere in both rooms!

This week, the Turtles explored a sink or float activity, requested to play many board games, built letters, worked on making books, and showed an interest in seashells. We set up an invitation to play - can you make an ocean habitat?
We also started exploring measurement! How many cubes long are you?
The Whales had a really exciting week! WE FILLED OUR GEM JAR! We are bucket-fillers! We add gems for bucket filling acts that we see. Now that our jar is filled, we had to come up with how to celebrate. We brainstormed, voted, and decided to have a balloon fun day!
We also had a visit from Gary, the puppet EDP made! Miss Natasha brought him for the morning and he read us a book. Many friends chose to read a book to Gary during Thinking and Learning Time.
Flight continues as an area of interest in the Whales room. Some friends found instructions about how to make a hot air balloon in one of our books. They made a list of the materials they needed and got to work!
Lastly, the Whales read the book "Everybody Needs a Rock." We learned about how rocks can be a symbol of ourselves. We chose a rock, decorated it, and can use it during Quiet Time to help our bodies relax (We put it on our forehead and visualize what the rock is seeing when we close our eyes!)
Have a happy weekend! :) Feel better to all the friends that were sick this week :( We missed you!
