What a spooktacular lead up to Halloween! The Turtles and Whales rooms have been abuzz with Halloween vocabulary, activities and preparations this week. We kicked things off with both groups figuring out missing rhyming words to draw a class monster:
We continued to work on numbers and counting. How many different ways can you represent a number? The Turtles made a number line and showed numbers using the number, number word, tallies, dots and ten-frames. Many children continued to show interest in the calendar and each day's date as we counted down the number of sleeps 'til Halloween!
The spooky holiday inspired a lot of Halloween-related writing. The Whales have been publishing books:
And the Turtles really enjoy copying words.!
Check out what this sorcerer conjured up!
We've also been working on how to hold pencils/crayons and how to use proper pressure. The "Pinch & Flip Method" is a good way to reinforce this with children:
We also worked hard prepping our rooms for Halloween, voting on and carving pumpkins, and counting pumpkin seeds by grouping them by 10!
Friday was a fun-filled day! We read Halloween books in the morning and made a delicious witches brew (it made us smarter!) Thanks for sending in juice boxes :)
We loved wearing our costumes to school! Both rooms were overtaken by adorable astronauts, superheroes, Elsa's, princesses & more!
We LOVED the Monster Mash dance. A big thank you from the Turtles and Whales to Parent Council for organizing such a fun event, and thank you to the parents that were able to join us! The Turtles were extra excited because a friend from our class won the GRAND PRIZE DRAW (congratulations)!
After quiet time, the Turtles and Whales switched rooms and got to explore a new environment. Lots of fun had by all!
We hope all of our little goblins and ghosties have a safe and Happy Halloween! Can't wait to hear everyone's reports on Monday. Enjoy!
