What a fun-filled, busy week! We kicked things off by discussing tally marks and collected data about our friends - "How do you get to school?" and "What is your favourite colour?"
We learned a special song about tally marks that you can review at home with your child:
Tally Marks
(to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat)
Tally marks
Tally marks
We draw them using lines,
One, two, three, four,
Across goes five
We encourage our students to practise identifying and writig tally marks in everyday activities.
We also started to GoNoodle this week. GoNoodle is a fun website that we use for daily physical activity in our class. Each class gets a champion (the Turtles have Squatchy Berger and the Whales have Blob Ross). As we exercise, we help our champs get strong and grow.

A few students have expressed that they would like to do GoNoodle at home. Parents and children can sign up for a free account. Here's the link if you'd like to check it out: www.gonoodle.com
The Whales became scientists this week as we wondered about mixing colours. We predicted what would happen when we mixed certain colours together, conducted an experiment, then recorded our findings. The children did a great job and it was so surprising when we mixed ALL the colours together expecting a rainbow, but created black instead!

A group of Turtles were busy brainstorming how we could transform our dramatic play area (currently set up as a house) into a school. They made a list of all the materials they would need and we are looking forward to seeing the changes they make in this area on Monday. We are sure lots of learning will happen in this new corner of our room! We will post pictures soon.
We have continued with our talking circles and the students are doing a great job of respecting the talking stick and each other. We are learning more about each other through this process. Here are the beautiful talking sticks some friends made:

Both rooms also received new visitors this week! Ask your child if they know what is living in our aquariums....
We also had one of the cutest days of the year on Friday. Picture day! Both Turtles and Whales did a FABULOUS job listening in the gym and the photographers were so complimentary about both groups. Can't wait to see the results! If you were away on Friday, there will be a retake day for individual pictures later in the year.
Lastly, thank you for coming to visit us at our Program Night! It was wonderful to chat with so many families and see everyone. We hope you have a wonderful and relaxing weekend.
PS. TERRY FOX ON MONDAY! DON'T FORGET TO WEAR CRAZY SOCKS FOR TERRY FOX (and a toonie for Terry if you'd like to donate). The kinders will be doing a few laps in our schoolyard on Monday morning. Thank you!
